KEEP SAFE For a couple of weeks now we have been advising you of the closure of the A45 to have a bridge put in place.
It happened over the weekend , it wasn’t without its issues due to high winds and with thanks to the contractors and Highways England they provided us with a number of pictures showing the process which we decided it might be a bit more interesting and I hope you enjoy it. To view it you will need to pop over to www.facebook.com/TrevorWright2017/ or twitter.com/TrevWright2017 Don’t forget the road will be closed in both directions every night this week for installation of the suspension wires, although the bridge is self-supporting it needs the tower and wires in order to stand the weight of the traffic. Its sad that I find myself writing this however it is REALLY important.
Last week we advised caution with regards to the various SCAMS going around and in particular HMRC scams however more are now emerging for example • Sending out coronavirus-themed phishing emails in an attempt to trick people into opening malicious attachments or revealing sensitive personal and financial details. • Impersonating the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Fraudsters claim to be able to provide the recipient with a list of coronavirus infected people in their area. In order to access this information, the victim needs to click on a link, which leads to a malicious website, or is asked to make a payment in Bitcoin • Selling unapproved and misbranded products, (for example teas and essential oils), claiming they can treat or prevent the Coronavirus. There are currently no approved vaccines or drugs available to prevent or treat the disease. • Creating malicious web pages with coronavirus-based domain names. These encourage Internet users to visit them, putting their computers at risk of viruses. Some are attempting to mimic genuine sources of information. • Cold calling residents offering ‘safe’ investments following falling share prices. • Taking advantage of vulnerable older people who are attempting to self-isolate. This may include offering to fetch shopping or carry out all household chores in return for cash or for divulging bank details. • Watch out for scam messages: Don’t click on the links or attachments in suspicious emails, and never respond to unsolicited messages and phone calls that ask for your personal or financial details. • Don’t buy goods or services from unexpected doorstep callers.• Shopping online: If you’re making a purchase from a company or person you don’t know and trust, carry out some research first, and ask a friend or family member for advice before completing the purchase. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, use a credit card if you have one, as most major credit card providers insure online purchases. The Chairman of Warwick District Council has taken the decision to cancel the meeting of Warwick District Council planned for Wednesday 25 March. This is in response to the Prime Minister’s coronavirus guidance issued on 23 March 2020. Had this meeting taken place, councillors would have voted on a recommendation to withdraw their proposal for excessive council tax in Warwick District, to create a ring-fenced fund to tackle climate change. However this meeting will not now be possible and neither will the referendum due to the current restrictions in place. As the referendum cannot take place, by law, the Council will revert to the lower Council tax increase of £5 a year for a band D property. This lower increase was approved by Council in February 2020 to cover the core Council services but by law cannot take effect until after the date the referendum was scheduled. This means that your April and May instalments will be paid at the higher rate you have already been billed for, which equates to an over-payment of around £10. Any overpayment will be automatically incorporated into your next bill, and reduced on that basis. Councillors regret that this approach has to be taken, but they have to act lawfully and respect the challenges faced by the nation at the moment. Whilst dealing with coronavirus is the main priority, Councillors are unanimous in their ambition to combat the effects of Climate Change and continue to support action that needs to be taken, as set out in their Action Programme. They will consider the financing required to tackle it in their 2020/21 budget review. www.warwickdc.gov.uk/news/article/387/council_tax_referendum_statement Following extensive testing of the lifting equipment and in line with current Government advice Buckingham Group Contracting Limited and its partners has taken the decision to proceed with the installation of the new bridge over the A45 /A46 this weekend commencing the 27th March 2020. The work will be delivered in adherence with Government and Department of Health guidelines on social distancing. Should these change then the works programme will be amended to reflect this.
The installation is scheduled to take place; Friday 27TH March 8.00pm until Monday 30th March 06.00am Monday 30TH through Sunday 5th April night closures 8.00pm until 06.00am As a result of the Coronavirus situation and Government guidance to stay at home unless absolutely essential, it is anticipated that there should be reduced level of traffic compared to a normal weekend. However, people are still advised there may still be disruption to journeys and they should avoid the area if possible or allow extra time for their journeys. Traffic diversions will be in place utilising the A444, A4082 and B4110 during the closures. To ensure the efficient and safe operation of the diversion Saint James Lane will be closed at the B4110 junction with a local diversion in place. Please adhere to the Government guidelines on social distancing. Social distancing measures will help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). There will be no provision for the public to watch the installation. In the meantime, we apologise in advance for any inconvenience and if you have any questions about the works please contact BGCL via email using the address whitleysouth@buckinghamgroup.co.uk. |
