A number of banks have introduced a new online authorisation system as part of an extra security.
The scammers have been quickly to react by sending TEXT massages complete with a link asking you to log and approve a transaction, it is no surprise that this link takes you to a web page asking you to input your details, it may also link to a BIT COIN coin web page and account. BE SAFE NO BANK will ask you to authorise any transaction other than by THEIR SECURE WEBSITE or SECURE APP and they will not ask you to usually to confirm your account number (as they already have it as you have logged on) but they may confirm a transaction that has already been completed. If the bank needs to call you THEY WILL never ask you to disclose CRITICAL PASSWORD INFORMATION and it will always be via their secure system or app. They do sometime use text as a confirmation but they will always direct you to their secured area which you should access as you would do normally not by clicking on the link in the text. What to do if you receive a text like this ? If you do go to your account if you want to check using the secure process not via the link in the text. Delete the text and BLOCK the number which may stop it appearing again , however it will not stop them using a different number to try again (I have had 4 in the past few days) TELL your friends and family. Particularly the elderly or those not used to digital technology, the scammers don't care who they rob and once the money is gone it is really hard (in some cases imposable ) to recover it back. If in doubt always always go back to the bank directly before releasing any money using your normal process, they wont mind you checking and hopefully we can stop or reduce the activities of these faceless people who will rob you of every penny you have.
