Funding & support for specific women & girls

31/5/2022

The Women and Girl’s Match Fund is funding to support charities working to improve the lives of vulnerable, disadvantaged or underrepresented women and girls in England and Scotland throughout 2022. Applications for the Christmas Challenge are already open and close on Friday 1st July.

Over £1m of match funding is available. We have two other opportunities for charities to access this funding over the course of 2022:
  • The Christmas Challenge 2022. The UK’s biggest match funding campaign takes place from 29th November - 6th December.  Applications open from 16th May - 1st July. Up to £25,000 in match funding is available per charity.
  • Run your own match funding campaign. Run your own match funding campaign on the Big Give platform at a time that suits you. Applications open from 1st April - 28th October. Up to £10,000 in match funding is available per charity.
Which charities are eligible to apply for this funding?
To be eligible to apply, charities must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Charities that are led by, for and with women and girls. To assess this, we will look at whether your governing document specifically mentions women and/or girls, whether you have a majority female board, who your beneficiaries are and your web presence (if your organisation has one).
  • Charities that are working to improve the lives of vulnerable, disadvantaged or underrepresented women and girls in England and Scotland.
  • UK-registered charities with at least one year of filed accounts and an annual income of at least £25,000 (as per last filed accounts), or organisations with tax-exempt status for charitable purposes.
  • Charities which are registered on theBigGive.org.uk
More information and how to apply for the Christmas Challenge
The Christmas Challenge is a match funding campaign where donations to participating charities are doubled during the week of the campaign (29 Nov - 6 Dec). Visit the Christmas Challenge page for more information.
The match funds come from two sources - charities secure some of these (Pledges) over the summer. The funds are then boosted by funds from a Big Give Champion (i.e. DCMS Tampon Tax funding) which contributes to the match fund pot. The collective pot is used to double donations from online supporters when the campaign is live.
For Women and Girls charities in England and Scotland, with an annual income of less than £1m, the Big Give can act as a Pledger for your campaign and offer Pledge funding of up to £12,500. This will be topped up with funds from DCMS of up to £12,500. This means you can access up to £25,000 in match funds from the Big Give and DCMS.
Applications open on Monday 16th May and close at 5pm Friday 1st July. The campaign launches at 12pm (midday) Tuesday 29th November and closes 12pm (midday) Tuesday 6th December.
