Unfortunately, scams are beginning to increase significantly particularly as interest rates and investments continue to struggle.
But that's not all , the range of scams continue to be more and more focused , with Amazon, BT broadband, HMRC and crypto currency to name but a few. Below is the latest information from Cyber Safe , and if you If You Are Affected or If you fall victim to any scam, report to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or www.actionfraud.police.uk If you would like support as a result of becoming a victim of any crime, contact Victim Support on 01926 682 693 If don't think it will happen to you , then consider what happened to one of our Stoneleigh Residents who was taken for thousands of their life savings in the past few weeks Remember NO ONE from the police, banks, HMRC or the council will ask you to either provide passwords or transfer money into other accounts. In terms of Crypto currency (which will be banned soon) its not a get rich quick scheme, and even though it may seem legitimate is unlikely that is, and once you transfer your money it will be gone, and don't think the banks will cover the loss they wont. Ask the lady who reportedly lost £45,000 plus as she decided to ignore all the advise from both her bank and her family as she thought it was legitimate and it would help her financially , what made it even worse is that she was passed over to what's known as "suckers list" and was then approached by an organisation pretending to be a regulator and for a fee (of course ) they would help recover the lost money, she paid the fee and more, and once again lost the lot (another £20K) If it doesn't feel right it probably isn't SO STOP and get advise using the information above.
